Pope Francis Exhortation: Evangelii Gaudium (paragraphs 252-253) he states that "authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence."Reality does not confirm this statement. The Koran is full of bellicose and hate-mongering verses against non-Muslims.
Francis will be able to find "Islam's Crimes Against Humanity", if he reads the Koran! Of course we all know, he already has. His silence is deafening!
Muslim leader says pope is model of what religious leader should be!
Cindy Wooden Catholic News Service
Oct. 8, 2013
VATICAN CITY Pope Francis, like Islam's Sufi mystic theologians and poets, "is trying to do good for the sake of the Good One, motivated by love and compassion," said the president of the Islamic Affairs Council of Maryland. Mohamad Bashar Arafat, a Syrian who has lived in the United States for more than 20 years, was visiting the Vatican and speaking to groups in Rome in early October as a guest of the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See as part of the U.S. State Department's international speakers program. In an interview with Catholic News Service, Arafat said he sees Pope Francis acting as all truly religious leaders should: reaching out with respect for the human person and open to dialogue. Arafat said the pope's love and openness were clear not only in his choice of being named after St. Francis of Assisi, but particularly in his decision in July to visit the Italian island of Lampedusa, praying for migrants lost at sea and calling the world's attention to the need for immigration reform, and in calling on people around the world to fast and pray for peace in Syria in early September when a military strike seemed imminent. "From my perspective, Pope Francis is really doing a wonderful job in terms of outreach, in terms of contributing to world peace, in terms of contributing to stopping wars and conflicts, praying for better understanding," Arafat said. "This was the message of St. Francis Assisi and this is the message of Ibn Arabi, the great Muslim scholar and theologian and poet, and this is the spirit of all the Muslim saints and Sufis around the world.
"St. Francis resonates with the Muslim world," he said, particularly because he is credited as the first Catholic leader to dialogue with a Muslim leader; in the midst of the Crusades, St. Francis met with Egyptian Sultan Malik al-Kamil in 1219, hoping to bring peace. Just as in medieval times, Arafat said, the world today needs dialogue and an encounter between peoples, which Pope Francis is doing. "I see Pope Francis saying the right things and setting the right tone, and also appearing in the right places at the right time," he said. Arafat, who runs religious and cultural training programs for foreign students visiting the United States as part of the State Department's Youth Exchange Study Program, said seminaries and programs that train priests and Muslim clerics need to be more serious and more systematic about preparing future religious leaders for dialogue and promoting respect. He said such education is particularly lacking on the Muslim side. As for Syria, where he still has family, Arafat said, "I myself am puzzled with what is happening over there, and the only solution I see is a political solution and reconciliation." Since March 2011, when fighting began between government forces and those trying to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad, more than 100,000 people are estimated to have died and close to 2 million have been displaced or are refugees. News reports frequently mention that the opposition to Assad is split between groups committed to democracy and fundamentalist Islamic parties. "Islam is not part of the problem at all. It's national and international interests that are part of the problem," Arafat said. "Islam is about wisdom and Islam is about cutting your loses; Islam is about how you manage to survive in coexistence with others -- that is Islam." The Quran, Islam's holy book, does not teach Muslims to espouse the attitude "I am the only one who is right and all of you are wrong," he said, nor does it insist that every nation must be governed by Shariah, Islam law.

U.S. plan gives Jerusalem holy sites to Vatican International mandate to control sections of Israel's capital
December 15 2013
by Aaron Klein
TEL AVIV – Secretary of State John Kerry quietly presented a U.S. plan for eastern Jerusalem that calls for an international administrative mandate to control holy sites in the area, according to informed Palestinian and Israeli diplomatic sources.
The exact composition of the international mandate is up for discussion, the sources said, but Kerry’s plan recommended a coalition that includes the Vatican, together with a group of Muslim countries such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
The international arrangement is being proposed as a temporary solution for about two to three years while security arrangements in Jerusalem between Israelis and Palestinians are finalized, said the sources.
Israel, the sources said, was not receptive to the particulars of Kerry’s plan, especially the concept of Turkish participation in Jerusalem. Kerry told the Israelis he would hold talks with the Kingdom of Jordan about its playing a leading role in the proposal in the place of Turkey, the sources added.
Kerry was in Jerusalem on Friday as part of an Obama administration effort to reach a deal for a Palestinian state by April, a timeline that is still on track, Kerry told reporters.
“We are working on an approach that both guarantees Israel’s security and fully respects Palestinian sovereignty,” Kerry added.
According to the Israeli and Palestinian diplomatic sources speaking to WND, Kerry’s trip this time around focused specifically on the particulars of security arrangements for the strategic Jordan Valley following a deal.
In October, WND exclusively reported Kerry was strongly urging Israel to give up the Jordan Valley in closed-door talks with the Palestinian Authority.
The current round of U.S.-brokered talks is attempting to hash out the details of a plan for the valley.
The Jordan Valley cuts through the heart of Israel. It runs from the Tiberias River in the north to the Dead Sea in the center to the city of Aqaba at the south of the country, stretching through the biblical Arabah desert.
The U.S. proposal calls for international forces to maintain security control along with unarmed Palestinian police forces, a senior Palestinian Authority negotiator told WND in October. Israel will retain security posts in some strategic areas of the Jordan Valley, according to the U.S. plan.
Previous talks incorporated an element of Jordanian authority in the Jordan Valley, but the Kingdom of Jordan is wary of participating in a future Palestinian state, the negotiator said.
The Palestinian negotiator pointed to the insurgency in Syria and changes of leadership in Egypt as reasons for Jordanian reluctance to assume any security control over Palestinian areas.

Dialogue with Islam: our call of alarm! August 07, 2013
District of the US We make available here an article of Fr. Regis de Cacqueray, District Superior of France, which was published on August 6 2013 and comments on the message of Pope Francis for the conclusion of the Muslim Ramadan.
We are grateful to the French District website, La Porte Latine for allowing us to reproduce this text in English. For the end of Ramadan and Id al-Fitr, Pope Francis signed with his own hand, on July 10, a message of good wishes [see text below] to the Muslims, to be published on August 2, 2013.
For centuries, after the example of Our Lord, Catholics have been called to show their charity towards their neighbors; this charity is expressed by the most ardent and noble desire, that of seeing them one day receive the greatest of gifts: becoming sons and daughters of Jesus Christ by the grace of baptism. It would thus be a lack of esteem for our neighbor not to hope with all our heart that he may resolutely abandon the obstacles that draw him away from Christ and the Holy Church instituted by Him. Man-made religions, such as Buddhism, Islam or Talmudic Judaism, are among the foremost of these obstacles.
And yet, since Vatican II and its declaration, Nostra Aetate, these obstacles have suddenly come to be seen as worthy of esteem, even as vehicles of grace. While in reality they keep souls from finding the truth and adhering to Christ, the only way of salvation, a good number of pastors now encourage interest in these spiritual systems, and invite non-Christians to deepen their own beliefs. In some cases, they even encourage them to remain in their errors!
When the popes, by their acts, such as kissing the Koran, or by their writings, such as wishing them a happy feast of Id al-Fitr, encourage the Muslims in the practice of Islam, we cannot but be devastated! In doing this they seem to lose sight of souls’ need to leave these paths that do not and can never lead to their salvation.
This attitude is the very opposite of that of St. Francis of Assisi when he met Sultan Al Malik Al Kamil: he gave proof of a demanding charity towards him, showing that he truly understood the man, but desiring only one thing: that his soul might go to Jesus Christ and abandon Islam. He neither insulted nor assaulted him. But neither did he give way. He told him straightforwardly: If you wish to convert to Christ, and your people with you, I will most gladly remain among you out of love for Him.
If you are hesitant about abandoning the law of Mohammed for the faith of Christ, order an immense fire to be lit; I will enter into it with your priests and you will see which is the surer and holier of the two creeds, and which one you must follow.
On April 3, 1991, John Paul II sent a message to the Muslims for the end of Ramadan. This August 2, his successor Francis imitated him. These acts are justified by the new practice of friendship inherited from the Council. This practice wishes to respond to the desire of entertaining peaceful relations in the zones of coexistence. But how can we not see that in the regions where Christians and Muslims live, the Christians are never the ones persecuting? How can we not notice that in our Western lands, it is the mosques that are being built and the churches that are being destroyed? How can we not observe that where Islam advances, it is to the detriment of our sanctuaries and calvaries? Is not this growth thanks to an irenicism that has refused prudence and embraced unconsciousness? Fr. De Foucauld, who lived in contact with the Muslims and whose love for these men knew no bounds, was always lucid in distrusting their erroneous beliefs.[1] Speaking of the Muslims of North Africa, he said:
They can fight with great courage for France, out of a sentiment of honor, a warlike character, a solidarity, a fidelity to their given word, like the mercenaries of the 16th and 17th centuries, but generally speaking, besides some exceptions, as long as they remain Muslim, they will not be French; they will wait more or less patiently for the day of the medhi, when they will drive France to submission.
Why should this realistic warning from the holy missionary come to be seen as an exaggerated judgment and a fearful proof of his animosity?
For the love of God, for the love of souls, we pray that the Church’s authorities, and in particular the Sovereign Pontiff, may return to that clear language that consists in showing one’s love for one’s neighbor, but never showing esteem for the errors that can keep him far from God.
As the Apostle of the Gentiles warning St. Peter, we desire in our modest turn to send out a cry of alarm to his successor. May he strengthen souls with the charity of the missionary spirit that can only open a dialogue with the one single idea of resolutely leading souls to Jesus Christ.
There only is their good. There only is their salvation.
Suresnes, August 6, 2013, feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord.[2]
Fr. Regis de Cacqueray, District Superior of France
1 Concerning Fr. De Foucauld, read The Necessity and Absolute Urgency of Converting the Muslims to Catholicism.2 The feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus had for a long time been celebrated on August 6 in different churches of the East and the West. In commemoration of the victory that stopped the invading fleet of Islam near Belgrade in 1457, since the news of this victory reached Rome on August 6, Pope Calixtus III expanded this solemnity to the universal Church. Pius X raised it to the rank of a double of the 2nd class because the basilica of St. John Lateran, anciently consecrated to the Holy Savior, celebrates its feast twice: on Easter (the Redeemer) and on August 6 (the transfigured Savior). The other churches dedicated to the Holy Savior celebrate their feast either on Easter or on the feast of the Transfiguration

Message of Pope Francis on August 2, 2013, for the end of Ramadan To Muslims throughout the World: It gives me great pleasure to greet you as you celebrate ‘Id al-Fitr’, so concluding the month of Ramadan, dedicated mainly to fasting, prayer and almsgiving. It is a tradition by now that, on this occasion, the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue sends you a message of good wishes, together with a proposed theme for common reflection. This year, the first of my Pontificate, I have decided to sign this traditional message myself and to send it to you, dear friends, as an expression of esteem and friendship for all Muslims, especially those who are religious leaders. As you all know, when the Cardinals elected me as Bishop of Rome and Universal Pastor of the Catholic Church, I chose the name of “Francis”, a very famous saint who loved God and every human being deeply, to the point of being called “universal brother”. He loved, helped and served the needy, the sick and the poor; he also cared greatly for creation. I am aware that family and social dimensions enjoy a particular prominence for Muslims during this period, and it is worth noting that there are certain parallels in each of these areas with Christian faith and practice. This year, the theme on which I would like to reflect with you and with all who will read this message is one that concerns both Muslims and Christians: Promoting Mutual Respect through Education.
This year’s theme is intended to underline the importance of education in the way we understand each other, built upon the foundation of mutual respect.
“Respect” means an attitude of kindness towards people for whom we have consideration and esteem. “Mutual” means that this is not a one-way process, but something shared by both sides. What we are called to respect in each person is first of all his life, his physical integrity, his dignity and the rights deriving from that dignity, his reputation, his property, his ethnic and cultural identity, his ideas and his political choices. We are therefore called to think, speak and write respectfully of the other, not only in his presence, but always and everywhere, avoiding unfair criticism or defamation. Families, schools, religious teaching and all forms of media have a role to play in achieving this goal.
Turning to mutual respect in interreligious relations, especially between Christians and Muslims, we are called to respect the religion of the other, its teachings, its symbols, its values. Particular respect is due to religious leaders and to places of worship. How painful are attacks on one or other of these! It is clear that, when we show respect for the religion of our neighbors or when we offer them our good wishes on the occasion of a religious celebration, we simply seek to share their joy, without making reference to the content of their religious convictions.
Regarding the education of Muslim and Christian youth, we have to bring up our young people to think and speak respectfully of other religions and their followers, and to avoid ridiculing or denigrating their convictions and practices. We all know that mutual respect is fundamental in any human relationship, especially among people who profess religious belief. In this way, sincere and lasting friendship can grow. When I received the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See on March 22, 2013, I said: "It is not possible to establish true links with God, while ignoring other people. Hence it is important to intensify dialogue among the various religions, and I am thinking particularly of dialogue with Islam. At the Mass marking the beginning of my ministry, I greatly appreciated the presence of so many civil and religious leaders from the Islamic world." With these words, I wished to emphasize once more the great importance of dialogue and cooperation among believers, in particular Christians and Muslims, and the need for it to be enhanced. With these sentiments, I reiterate my hope that all Christians and Muslims may be true promoters of mutual respect and friendship, in particular through education.
Finally, I send you my prayerful good wishes, that your lives may glorify the Almighty and give joy to those around you. Happy Feast to you all!

WND EXCLUSIVE
POPE: 'AUTHENTIC' ISLAM OPPOSES VIOLENCE: Says 'non-Christians' can live 'justified by the grace of God'
November 26 2013: By Bob Unruh: joined WND in 2006 after nearly three decades with the Associated Press.
Pope Francis’ insistence in his new apostolic exhortation that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Quran are opposed to every form of violence” is drawing negative reviews from some analysts of the religion who point to the Islamic holy book’s calls to wage war against nonbelievers. “How does he know that? When did he become an imam?” wonders columnist Pamela Geller. She notes as an example the Quranic passage that states: “So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks.” “At a time when Christianity worldwide is under siege by Islamic jihadists, the leader of the Catholic Church claims that the Quran teaches nonviolence,” Geller writes. The pope addresses the issue in a new “Evangelii Gaudium,” an apostolic exhortation. It’s on nearly the last page of the many thousands of words he writes. “Our relationship with the followers of Islam has taken on great importance, since they are now significantly present in many traditionally Christian countries, where they can freely worship and become fully a part of society,” he says. “We must never forget that they ‘profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, who will judge humanity on the last day.’” Francis says the “sacred writings of Islam have retained some Christian teachings; Jesus and Mary receive profound veneration and it is admirable to see how Muslims both young and old, men and women, make time for daily prayer and faithfully take part in religious services.” “Many of them also have a deep conviction that their life, in its entirety, is from God and for God,” he says. Hear from the experts on what the significance of Pope Francis’ election is, in “Petrus Romanus” as well as “The Last Pope?” Francis says Christians “should embrace with affection and respect Muslim immigrants to our countries.” He acknowledges, however, that countries with “Islamic tradition” are problematic. “I ask and I humbly entreat those countries to grant Christians freedom to worship and to practice their faith, in light of the freedom which followers of Islam enjoy in Western countries,” he writes. “Faced with disconcerting episodes of violent fundamentalism, our respect for true followers of Islam should lead us to avoid hateful generalizations, for authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Quran are opposed to every form of violence.” Geller comments that “as Christians across the Muslim world live in abject terror and fear kidnapping, rape and slaughter to the bloodcurdling cries of ‘Allahu Akbar,’ the pope gives papal sanction to the savage.” She says Allah “has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have paradise.” “They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed,” she writes. The pope also addresses the issue of unbelievers. “Non-Christians, by God’s gracious initiative, when they are faithful to their own consciences, can live ‘justified by the grace of God,’ and thus be ‘associated to the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ.’” He says that because of the “sacramental dimension of sanctifying grace, God’s working in them tends to produce signs and rites, sacred expressions which in turn bring others to a communitarian experience of journeying toward God.” Those expressions, he said, “can be channels which the Holy Spirit raises up in order to liberate non-Christians from atheistic immanentism or from purely individual religious experiences.” He also calls for outreach to non-Christians and strongly suggests a move toward socialism. “Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world. This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naïve trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system. Meanwhile, the excluded are still waiting.” Inequality, he said, “spawns violence.” “It is evident that unbridled consumerism combined with inequality proves double damaging to the social fabric. Inequality eventually engenders a violence which recourse to arms cannot and never will be able to resolve.” He also advocates global management. “Each meaningful economic decision made in one part of the world has repercussions everywhere else; consequently, no government can act without regard for shared responsibility,” he says. “Indeed, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find local solutions for enormous global problems which overwhelm local politics with difficulties to resolve. If we really want to achieve a healthy world economy, what is needed at this juncture of history is a more efficient way of interacting which, with due regard for the sovereignty of each nation, ensures the economic well-being of all countries, not just of a few.” SOUND OFF ON POPE'S CLAIM THAT AUTHENTIC ISLAM IS NONVIOLENT • Attacks mentioned in the media are an aberration, not the norm in the practice of Islam • Islam has much to contribute to world peace and culture • He absolutely right. It's a religion of peace • His statement is political correctness run amok • He must have been thinking about torture by Catholics in the Inquistion. Thus, Islam is not so violent • Islam is incompatible with the notion of peaceful coexistence • 'Authentic' Islam is 'nonviolent'? Muhammad was a warlord who killed countless people. Duh • Islam has not been a 'religion of peace' for the past 14 centuries and has shown absolutely no sign of beginning now • Nothing could be further from the truth. Islam will never stop attacks until it achieves its goal of worldwide domination and subjugation • I am shocked at the naivete of this pope. He needs a basic class in Quran 101 • Other View Results Read more at http://www.wnd.com/2013/11/pope-authentic-islam-opposes-violence/#FmjshXDrp674pxmF.99
Pope Francis' Letter To Grand Imam Of Al-Azhar Calls For Mutual Understanding Between Christians And Muslims
Posted: 09/18/2013
Cairo's Al-Azhar University, considered one of the most important centers of learning in Sunni Islam, announced yesterday that Pope Francis has sent a personal messageto the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al Tayeb. Pope Francis conveyed his good wishes to Al-Tayeb via a face-to-face meeting between the Grand Imam and the Apostolic Nuncio to Egypt, Mgr. Jean-Paul Gobel, reports Catholic website Abouna. Gobel personally delivered Pope Francis' Ramadan greetings to the Muslim world as well as a message to Al Tayeb expressing his hope for greater dialogue between Muslims and Christians.
The Vatican Insider reported that the Pope's letter highlighted the Vatican's respect for Islam and said he hoped that every effort would be made towards achieving "mutual understanding between the world’s Christians and Muslims in order to build peace and justice." Al Tayeb responded that Al-Azhar desires to send a message of "respect for people of every religion and the safeguarding of human dignity and the highest values described in the Quran and the Sunnah," adding that Muslims are willing "to collaborate to help justice and progress grow among the people of the Earth."
Islamic in his 2006 Regensburg lecture. Benedict's January 2011 condemnation of anti-Christian violence in Egypt heightened tensions even more, and caused Al-Azhar to completely suspend dialogue with the Holy See, citing his "unacceptable interference in Egypt's affairs."
Prior to that incident, a delegation from the university would participate in meetings with the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue every two years.
Pope Francis' election after Benedict's resignation was seen as a new chance for religious cooperation by many Muslim leaders, and Al Tayeb sent Francis a personal note of congratulations when he was chosen as Pope. Though the rift seems to be healing quickly, especially in light of the religious ramifications of the unrest in Egypt, Benedict's remarks have not been forgotten. Al-Azhar's report of the meeting said that Al Tayeb told Gobel that casting Islam in a negative light is a "red line" that must not be crossed, in an apparent reference to the incidents that took place while Benedict was Pope.
Though Al-Azhar's account of the meeting did not explicitly mention the possibility of resuming official dialogue between the two institutions, it is certainly a big step forward when it comes to repairing past wounds. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/18/pope-francis-letter-al-azhar_n_3948461.htm
Open Letter to his Holiness Pope Francis
Posted on December 6, 2013 by Baron Bodissey
The following open letter to Pope Francis was written today by Geert Wilders, the leader of the PVV (Partij voor de Vrijheid, Party for Freedom) in the Netherlands.
Open letter to his Holiness Pope Francis
Your Holiness,
In your recent exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (Paragraphs 247-248) you draw the world's attention to the indebtedness of Christianity to the Jews and their faith. The exhortation also contains a sharp condemnation of the terrible persecutions which the Jews have endured from Christians in the past.
Your words are words which might inspire many.
Unfortunately, they are in sharp contrast to the expressions of hatred which were voiced last October by the spiritual leader of Sunni Islam, Ahmad Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of the Al-Azhar Institute in Cairo.
During an interview, aired on Egyptian television on October 25, Grand Imam Ahmad Al-Tayeb reaffirmed the relevance of Koranic verse 5:82, which states that of all people the Christians are closest to the Muslims, while the Jews are strongest in enmity towards them. This verse has inspired centuries of Islamic hatred of Jews.
Al-Tayeb's invocation of Koranic Jew-hatred is in line with fourteen centuries of Islamic teaching. Grand Imam Al-Tayeb's predecessor at Al-Azhar, Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, even wrote a book, entitled The Children of Israel in the Koran and the Sunna, in defense of Jew-hatred based on Koranic teachings.
The current suffering of Christians from Islamic persecution in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Sudan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Indonesia, and so many other countries, clearly indicates what Christians have to endure from the followers of the Koran. What atheists and Jews, who are considered the worst enemies, have to endure from Islam is even worse.
In your exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (paragraphs 252-253) you state that "authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence."
Reality does not confirm this statement.
The Koran is full of bellicose and hate-mongering verses against non-Muslims. Your Holiness will be able to find them if he reads the Koran, but I will name just a few:
2:191-193: "And slay them wherever you come upon them, [...] Fight them, till there is no persecution and the religion is Allah's."
4:89: "If they turn their backs, take them, and slay them wherever you find them; take not to yourselves any one of them as friend or helper."
5:33: "This is the recompense of those who fight against Allah and His Messenger, [...]: they shall be slaughtered, or crucified, or their hands and feet shall alternately be struck off; or they
shall be banished from the land."
8:60: "Make ready for them whatever force and strings of horses you can, to terrify thereby the enemy of Allah and your enemy."
9:5: "When the sacred months are drawn away, slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them, and confine them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush."
9:29: "Fight those who believe not in Allah."
9:30: "The Christians call Christ the son of God. That is a saying from their mouth; they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them."
9:123: "O believers, fight the unbelievers who are near to you; and let them find in you a harshness; and know that Allah is with the godfearing."
47:4: "When you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks."
I hope that the Holy Father will help us defend the West's Judeo-Christian and humanistic civilization, to which even atheists and agnostics owe their freedom and democracy.
Nothing will be gained by a refusal to face reality.
We must speak the truth about Islam — the largest threat to mankind in this present age.
Very respectfully,
Geert Wilders

Will the Vatican comply with UN investigation into child abuse?
Jan 6 2014
A few weeks ago, Pope Francis delivered his first ever Christmas Day speech to thousands of followers in St Peter’s Square. He highlighted the lives ‘shattered’ in Syria, Iraq and the Israel-Palestine conflict and called for an end to ‘further suffering’. But simply wishing for ‘world peace’ is for Miss World contestants; the leader of one of the world’s wealthiest and most influential bodies has the power to make real change.
On January 16, a Vatican delegation is due to appear before the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child at a hearing in Geneva as part of an investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse by Catholic clergy around the world and an alleged system of cover-ups by the Holy See. Pope Francis and the Catholic Church have a clear opportunity to help victims whose lives have been ‘shattered’ by child abuse and help prevent ‘further suffering’, campaigners say.
‘This is the first time the Holy See’s been pressed on child sexual abuse by the world’s children’s rights body and that’s of international significance,’ said Veronica Yates, director of Child Rights International Network (CRIN). ‘We know child abuse happens in other closed institutions, but what’s unique about the Catholic Church is the Holy See is a UN State that’s voluntarily signed up to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, a legally binding document that includes, among others, a child’s right to protection from violence and sexual abuse.’
She added: ‘Child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church is a global problem affecting thousands of children. Some of the “techniques” employed by the church indicate its disregard for children’s rights and the law. An example is the “geographical cure”, designed to relocate, forget and sweep under the rug cases of child abuse to protect the institution. There are numerous examples of priests accused of abuse being transferred, usually from Europe or North America to Africa or Latin America. The Holy See’s given no indication these practices have stopped.’
But does she think anything can be achieved by the UN investigation?
‘We believe the UN Committee will give strong recommendations to the Holy See to change its laws and policies, so child abusers can be punished and can no longer hide behind a cloak of secrecy,’ said Yates. ‘We hope the review will also give victims the courage and opportunities to come forward and seek justice for the crimes they’ve suffered.’
The Catholic Church has been too slow to tackle the problem, admitted Danny Sullivan, chairman of theNational Catholic Safeguarding Commission. ‘The Catholic Church acknowledges it took some time to recognise the extent of child abuse within the church and successive popes have regretted this and apologised and met with victims and survivors. ‘It’s not the reputation of the church which matters most – it’s the damage done to victims and survivors which is the church’s principal concern. It’s significant that the group of eight cardinals commissioned by Pope Francis to help with reforms in the church have made their first proposal the setting up of a safeguarding commission in the Vatican, which reflects how seriously Pope Francis takes the issue of child abuse. It will be important that the commission is open, transparent and robust.’
But are these just words? The Holy See’s already refused to provide requested details to the UN Committee on its internal investigations into child abuse by priests, widely seen as another example of the Catholic Church putting its reputation above the rights of victims and potential future victims. They were accused of hiding behind legal technicalities.
The UN asked, among other things, for details of how the Vatican was making sure known abusive priests had no contact with children and what guidelines were given to ensure the church reported known cases to the police. The Holy See suggested that, if pushed too hard on these issues, they could terminate or withdraw from the UN Treaty.
Criticism from the UN would be damaging, at a time when the Catholic Church is trying to present a new image. But the UN Committee has no legal powers to punish guilty parties or impose reform. ‘The Committee can’t find powerful members of the Vatican guilty for covering up child sexual abuse,’ said Yates. ‘But it can challenge the Holy See on its persistent side-stepping of one of the worst crimes against children.’ If the Catholic Church refuses to be open and co-operative, has anything changed in the past few years or is it still trying to protect its own image at the expense of victims? ‘
The Roman Catholic Church has an appalling history of cover-ups, denials and moving perpetrators from one place to another,’ said Peter Saunders, chief executive of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC). ‘Most victims of abuse will take some convincing that the church is serious about this issue and will need to see mighty things happen to consider they’ve received any form of “justice”.
Without the Catholic Church agreeing to hand over their information about abusing clergy, the whole thing would be pointless and I believe the Vatican’s already refused to do this.’ Although the Catholic Church is being singled out, abuse happens in many other organisations. ‘At NAPAC, we hear from people abused by Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Quakers…’ said Saunders. ‘Abuse knows no boundaries. All religious organisations should be investigated, as this is a global epidemic. And we shouldn’t forget secular organisations have a great deal to answer to: the BBC, the NHS…’ Saunders has first-hand experience on this issue – he was abused at a Catholic boys’ school in south-west London. His older brother, Mike, was abused by the same priest, which,
Saunders says, led to heroin and alcohol addiction. He hopes that victims are remembered in the UN investigation.
‘I survived, but Mike died from the addictions that set in from the abuse he suffered for years,’ he said. ‘This is the real cost of abuse.’
U.N. Asks Vatican Hard Questions on Widespread Sexual Violence Against Children Vatican Representatives Try to Relegate Issue to the Past
January 16, 2014, Geneva – Today, the Vatican was summoned before the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child to report on its record in addressing widespread sexual violence within the Catholic Church. Members of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) and their attorneys from the U.S.-based Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) were in attendance. This was the first time the Vatican had been called to account for its actions related to this issue before an international body. In February of last year, CCR and SNAP filed a report to the Committee, documenting what they describe as the depth and breadth of the violence, the policies and practices within the Church that have enabled and perpetuated it, and the rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child the Vatican has violated. The Vatican responded in December to a set of official questions posed by the committee, a month after the deadline, refusing to provide the data requested and asserting that it was only responsible for actions or crimes that occur within Vatican City. CCR and SNAP then filed a response to the Vatican’s report .
“The Vatican has consistently refused to accept responsibility for its role in perpetuating rape and sexual violence against children in the Church and further enabling it by protecting offending priests” said CCR Senior Staff Attorney Pam Spees. “So its performance at the United Nations this morning was not surprising. The Vatican attempted to relegate the issue to the past and claim it is a new era, that they now ‘get it,’ but they continue to refuse to turn over records for prosecution, punish higher-ups that covered up the crimes, or provide any real evidence that they are now putting the safety of children above the reputation of the Church. Nonetheless, today’s hearing is a milestone in calling for an end to these days of impunity. The international community is demanding answers, and that is the first step toward true accountability and, we hope, an end to the widespread violence against children.” CCR and SNAP found the Vatican’s responses to the questions posed by the UN Committee unsatisfactory. The committee had requested concrete data and facts, which the Vatican refused to provide. According to CCR and SNAP, the Vatican has been capable of tracking cases of abuse when it has aggressively fought or blocked efforts by survivors to obtain compensation in civil actions.
Said SNAP President Barbara Blaine, “The new pope seems to be making encouraging gestures in a lot of areas, but he’s doing nothing to even begin to expose – much less reverse –decades of selfish church coverups that endanger kids and protect predators. It’s very disappointing and it’s yet another reason why those who see, suspect or suffer clergy sex crimes should contact secular authorities, not church figures.” SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims.
SNAP was founded in 1988 and has more than 12,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers, as well as those who suffered institutional abuse or those hurt by scout leaders, coaches and teachers. Visit www.snapnetwork.org.
The Center for Constitutional Rights is dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Founded in 1966 by attorneys who represented civil rights movements in the South, CCR is a non-profit legal and educational organization committed to the creative use of law as a positive force for social change.

Secret History of the Jesuits [Annotated] [Kindle Edition] Edmond Paris (Author) Alberto Rivera (Introduction)
Book Description Publication Date: April 25, 2011
Secrets the Jesuits don't want Christians to know Out of Europe, a voice is heard from the secular world that documents historically the same information told by ex-priests. The author exposes the Vatican's involvement in world politics, intrigues, and the fomenting of wars throughout history. It appears, beyond any doubt, that the Roman Catholic institution is not a Christian church and never was. The poor Roman Catholic people have been betrayed by her and are facing spiritual disaster. Paris shows that Rome is responsible for the two great world wars. Author Edmond Paris explains why he wrote this book...
"The public is practically unaware of the overwhelming responsibility carried by the Vatican and its Jesuits in the start of the two world wars -- a situation which may be explained in part by the gigantic finances at the disposition of the Vatican and its Jesuits, giving them power in so many spheres, especially since the last conflict."
"In fact, the part they took in those tragic events has hardly been mentioned until the present time, except by apologists eager to disguise it. It is with the aim of rectifying this and establishing the true facts that we present in this and other books the political activity of the Vatican during the contemporary -- activity which mutually concerns the Jesuits."
"This study is based on irrefutable archive documents, publications from well-known political personalities, diplomats, ambassadors and eminent writers, most of whom are Catholics, even attested by the imprimatur."

The Extreme Oath of the Jesuits
"I, ..........., now, in the presence of Almighty God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the blessed Michael the Archangel, the blessed St. John the Baptist, the holy Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul and all the saints and sacred hosts of heaven, and to you, my ghostly father, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, founded by St. Ignatius Loyola in the Pontificate of Paul the Third, and continued to the present, do by the womb of the virgin, the matrix of God, and the rod of Jesus Christ, declare and swear, that his holiness the Pope is Christ's Vice-regent and is the true and only head of the Catholic or Universal Church throughout the earth; and that by virtue of the keys of binding and loosing, given to his Holiness by my Savior, Jesus Christ, he hath power to depose heretical kings, princes, states, commonwealths and governments, all being illegal without his sacred confirmation and that they may safely be destroyed."
"Therefore, to the utmost of my power I shall and will defend this doctrine of his Holiness' right and custom against all usurpers of the heretical or Protestant authority whatever, especially the Lutheran of Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and the now pretended authority and churches of England and Scotland, and branches of the same now established in Ireland and on the Continent of America and elsewhere; and all adherents in regard that they be usurped and heretical, opposing the sacred Mother Church of Rome. I do now renounce and disown any allegiance as due to any heretical king, prince or state named Protestants or Liberals, or obedience to any of the laws, magistrates or officers."
"I do further declare that the doctrine of the churches of England and Scotland, of the Calvinists, Huguenots and others of the name Protestants or Liberals to be damnable and they themselves damned who will not forsake the same."
"I do further declare, that I will help, assist, and advise all or any of his Holiness' agents in any place wherever I shall be, in Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, England, Ireland or America, or in any other Kingdom or territory I shall come to, and do my uttermost to extirpate the heretical Protestants or Liberals' doctrines and to destroy all their pretended powers, legal or otherwise."
"I do further promise and declare, that notwithstanding I am dispensed with, to assume my religion heretical, for the propaganda of the Mother Church's interest, to keep secret and private all her agents' counsels from time to time, as they may entrust me and not to divulge, directly or indirectly, by word, writing or circumstance whatever; but to execute all that shall be proposed, given in charge or discovered unto me, by you, my ghostly father, or any of this sacred covenant."
"I do further promise and declare, that I will have no opinion or will of my own, or any mental reservation whatever, even as a corpse or cadaver (perinde ac cadaver), but will unhesitatingly obey each and every command that I may receive from my superiors in the Militia of the Pope and of Jesus Christ."
"That I may go to any part of the world withersoever I may be sent, to the frozen regions of the North, the burning sands of the desert of Africa, or the jungles of India, to the centers of civilization of Europe, or to the wild haunts of the barbarous savages of America, without murmuring or repining, and will be submissive in all things whatsoever communicated to me."
"I furthermore promise and declare that I will, when opportunity present, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do, to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, sex or condition; and that I will hang, waste, boil, flay, strangle and bury alive these infamous heretics, rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women and crush their infants' heads against the walls, in order to annihilate forever their execrable race. That when the same cannot be done openly, I will secretly use the poisoned cup, the strangulating cord, the steel of the poniard or the leaden bullet, regardless of the honor, rank, dignity, or authority of the person or persons, whatever may be their condition in life, either public or private, as I at any time may be directed so to do by any agent of the Pope or Superior of the Brotherhood of the Holy Faith, of the Society of Jesus."
"In confirmation of which, I hereby dedicate my life, my soul and all my corporal powers, and with this dagger which I now receive, I will subscribe my name written in my own blood, in testimony thereof; and should I prove false or weaken in my determination, may my brethren and fellow soldiers of the Militia of the Pope cut off my hands and my feet, and my throat from ear to ear, my belly opened and sulphur burned therein, with all the punishment that can be inflicted upon me on earth and my soul be tortured by demons in an eternal hell forever!"
"All of which, I, .........., do swear by the Blessed Trinity and blessed Sacraments, which I am now to receive, to perform and on my part to keep inviolable; and do call all the heavenly and glorious host of heaven to witness the blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist, and witness the same further with my name written and with the point of this dagger dipped in my own blood and sealed in the face of this holy covenant."
(He receives the wafer from the Superior and writes his name with the point of his dagger dipped in his own blood taken from over his heart.)
Superior:
"You will now rise to your feet and I will instruct you in the Catechism necessary to make yourself known to any member of the Society of Jesus belonging to this rank."
"In the first place, you, as a Brother Jesuit, will with another mutually make the ordinary sign of the cross as any ordinary Roman Catholic would; then one cross his wrists, the palms of his hands open, and the other in answer crosses his feet, one above the other; the first points with forefinger of the right hand to the center of the palm of the left, the other with the forefinger of the left hand points to the center of the palm of the right; the first then with his right hand makes a circle around his head, touching it; the other then with the forefinger of his left hand touches the left side of his body just below his heart; the first then with his right hand draws it across the throat of the other, and the latter then with a dagger down the stomach and abdomen of the first. The first then says Iustum; and the other answers Necar; the first Reges. The other answers Impious." (The meaning of which has already been explained.) "The first will then present a small piece of paper folded in a peculiar manner, four times, which the other will cut longitudinally and on opening the name Jesu will be found written upon the head and arms of a cross three times. You will then give and receive with him the following questions and answers:-
" Question:- From whither do you come?

Q.:- Will you do that?
A.:- I will.
Q.:- How do you travel?
A.:- In the bark of Peter the fisherman.

Chicago Jesuits hid sex crimes May 22, 2013|By Manya Brachear | Tribune reporter i Defrocked Jesuit priest Donald McGuire leaves the Dirksen Courthouse in Chicago after a hearing in 2007. (Zbigniew Bzdak, Chicago Tribune) Internal church records released Tuesday show that Chicago Jesuits consciously concealed the crimes of convicted sex offender Donald McGuire for more than 40 years as the prominent Roman Catholic priest continued to sexually abuse dozens of children around the globe. One letter written in 1970 by the Rev. John H. Reinke, then president of Loyola Academy in Wilmette, described McGuire's presence at the school as "positively destructive and corrosive." Instead of insisting he be removed from ministry or sent to treatment, Reinke suggested a transfer to Loyola University. "This whole situation has been so muddy and troublesome I just wanted to get it out of my mind from time to time," wrote Reinke, who died in 2003. "Anyway, here it is, for the files and the record. … There is little hope of affecting any change. … He cannot be corrected." The documents contributed to a $19.6 million settlement between the Jesuits and six men from four states announced Tuesday. With an average payout of $3 million per person, the amount per individual is the largest in the history of the U.S. Catholic sexual abuse crisis, the victims' lawyers said. The settlement and the documents add one more chapter to the still unfolding story of sexual abuse in the church. While the settlement of the lawsuit against the Chicago Province of the Society of Jesus doesn't name any priests accused of abusing minors who have not been previously disclosed to the public, it does name a number of Jesuit superiors who for four decades kept McGuire's crimes a secret and, the victims' attorneys said, enabled him to abuse more young men. To date, lawyers have identified 28 men who have alleged abuse by McGuire from the 1960s until 2004. Eight have filed lawsuits. "Jesuits made choices time and time again that demonstrated willful indifference," said Jeff Anderson, the plaintiffs' attorney. "Not one Jesuit official has yet to be prosecuted for their complicity in these crimes." The Rev. Timothy Kesicki, who as Chicago provincial leads the area's Jesuits, said in a statement that the order is "painfully aware" that it made mistakes and failed to protect children. Many steps have been implemented since 2007 to go above and beyond the policies to protect children passed by the U.S. Catholic bishops, said Jeremy Langford, a spokesman for the Chicago Jesuit province. "More important, we failed to listen to those who came forward and to meet their courage in dealing with Donald McGuire as we should have," said Kesicki, who has been promoted to lead the Jesuits' national office next year. Lawyers for the victims commended Kesicki for understanding the failure of the order's leadership in protecting children. As former spiritual director for Mother Teresa and her Missionaries of Charity, McGuire offered Roman Catholic retreats around the globe. The first allegation of sexual abuse against McGuire or any Jesuit priest in Chicago came in the form of a lawsuit filed in 2003 by a former student at Loyola Academy. The lawsuit alleged that McGuire molested and beat the student more than 100 times in 1968 and 1969. At the time it was filed, the lawsuit also named and accused the Jesuits of failing to inform law enforcement of the boy's complaints. The Rev. Richard McGurn, assistant to the provincial for the Chicago Jesuits at the time, said the order did not know of allegations of abuse until it received a letter from Anderson 10 days before his client filed the lawsuit. Only then did the order suspend McGuire's priestly functions, prohibiting him from doing public ministry or administering sacraments pending an investigation. But as McGuire and the allegations against him made their way through various court systems, evidence began to mount that the Jesuits knew all along. After a second victim from Loyola Academy came forward, Cook County authorities directed the two men to Wisconsin, where they said McGuire molested them during trips to the resort area near Lake Geneva between 1966 and 1968. Unlike Illinois' statute of limitations, Wisconsin's didn't preclude criminal prosecution. McGuire was convicted in 2006 and sentenced to seven years behind bars and 20 years of probation. Though the prison sentence was postponed pending his appeal, McGuire was jailed three times for violating his probation. Before Wisconsin authorities could have his probation revoked, federal authorities charged McGuire in 2007 with traveling internationally to engage in sexual misconduct with a minor. That same year, more accusers — six in total — began to report that McGuire had abused them on spiritual retreats. In 2011, documents that Wisconsin prosecutors were told never existed began to surface that showed consecutive Jesuit provincials in Chicago had known the truth about McGuire for a while.
